Metter Area Information

Metter, Georgia: 

Everything's Better in Metter!  In the heart of Southeast Georgia, Metter is convenient to the port city of Savannah. Interstate 16 provides access to major markets throughout the South. The Woodpecker Trail gives travelers a leisurely trip through the rural South.

Metter is full of character and charm. The wide tree-lined streets that earned Metter the designation of a "Tree City, USA", the quaint specialty shops downtown, or its friendly slow paced lifestyle.  Home to Michael Guido, the Sower, and with over twenty-five churches and good schools, Metter has a strong community spirit.

Weather: 

The average daily  temperature in January is 48 degrees F.,in July, 81 degrees F. This is an almost perfect climate, with 46 inches average rainfall and only negligible snowfall. 

Colleges & Universities: 

Close to Metter is Swainsboro Technical College as well as East Georgia College Statesboro, home of Georgia Southern University is 16 miles east of Metter.

Dining, Recreation & Sport: 

Enjoy the shady lawn in the center of town or browse one of the many specialty shops, including two with old-fashion soda fountains. Visit the restored train depot used as a museum and meeting place.

The native blossoms of Candler County Elliottia Racemosa can be found in the Charles C. Harrold Nature Preserve along with the rare gopher tortoise.

George L. Smith State Park has camping, hiking, picnicking and excellent fishing a few miles north of Metter.

The Canoochee, Ohoopee, Ogeechee and the Altamaha rivers are all within thirty minutes of Metter and provide activities from fishing to water skiing.

The Guido Gardens is the home of "Seeds from the Sower." The gardens and prayer chapel are open to the public and are prime spots for reflection and relaxation.  The annual Christmas lighting of the gardens is a highlight.

Willow Lake Golf Club - This semi-private 18-hole course challenges golfers of all levels. Many say it's the best small-town course in Georgia.

The shopping and dining pleasures of historic Savannah, Georgia are just an hour away.  The beaches of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina are just 1.5 hours from Metter.  Orlando, Florida and all the fun of DisneyWorld are right at 5 hours due south.  Atlanta is 3 hours from Metter.
