Soperton, Georgia:
"The Million Pines City". Located in Treutlen County,
Soperton
is 22 miles from Dublin, 96 miles northwest of Savannah,
72 miles east of Macon. Interstate 16, located 7
miles north of Soperton is the major link between
Atlanta, Macon, and Savannah.
City population: 2769.
Soperton, incorporated as
a town December 17, 1902, is the county seat and the
only incorporated town in Treutlen County. The town is
named for Benjamin Franklin Soper, a construction
engineer with the Macon, Dublin and Savannah Railroad.
Soperton is known as the
"Million Pines City" because of James Fowler. Mr. Fowler
planted over 7,000,000 pine seedlings on 10,000 acres of
the county. Pine by-products are now an important part
of the local economy.
Weather:
The average daily
temperature in January is 48 degrees F.,in July, 81
degrees F. This is an almost perfect climate, with 46 inches
average rainfall and minimal snowfall.

Held every November to
honor James Fowler, the
Million Pines Arts and Crafts Festival is a big
event for Soperton and Treutlen County.
The shopping and
dining pleasures of historic
Savannah, Georgia are just an 1 1/2 hours away.
The beaches of
Hilton Head Island, South Carolina are just 2 1/2 hours
from Soperton. Orlando, Florida and all the fun
of
DisneyWorld are right at 5 hours due south.
Atlanta is 2 1/4 hours from Soperton.
